Adams & Bischoff, a criminal defense law firm based in Charleston, SC, proudly represents people who haven’t been given a fair shake. As a result, our attorneys have dedicated their lives to providing their clients with a fair shot in court. Another area that we are passionate about assisting in is higher education. One of the many challenges people in our society face is obtaining access to higher education. With the rise in tuition costs across the country, many students struggle to pay for their education. We want to do our part to change that. 

Our goal was to extend a scholarship to a student who also has had to overcome obstacles to be where they are today. Applicants were asked to submit a well-written, 750-word essay on the challenges they have faced and how they have overcome them. The person with the most thoughtful and well-articulated essay was awarded $1,000 to help finance their education. 

The deadline to apply for this scholarship was February 9, 2026.

Scholarship Eligibility:

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be currently enrolled in college or graduate school, or GED holders about to attend a college within the United States. Applicants must have shown good academic standing by holding a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The recipient of this scholarship had an eloquently written essay and met the application requirements. 

  • The scholarship was open to any current high school senior, vocational student, college student, or graduate student in the United States residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.
  • Students must have been enrolled in a vocational program or two to a five-year post-secondary institution for the upcoming academic year.
  • Immediate family members (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households (whether related or not) of Adams & Bischoff staff and attorneys, were not eligible to participate in the competition. 
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher was required. 

Application Requirements

  • The candidate must’ve submitted a 750-word essay describing how they have had to overcome obstacles to get to where they are today. Let us know the obstacles you’ve faced and how you were able to conquer them. 
  • The candidate must have submitted a professional resumé that listed their professional and academic experience.
  • The candidate must have submitted a transcript from their current school. 
  • First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who had recently transferred needed to submit an official transcript from their prior school and an unofficial transcript from their current school.
  • High school students must’ve also submitted proof of acceptance to their college or university.

Application Deadline and Questions:

The official deadline for all application materials was February 9, 2026. Applications received after this date were not considered.
